You can be married but alone.
Together but far apart.
When the battleground is your home,
when it ends, that's where you'll start.
You can argue tooth and nail,
fight each and every night,
then ask the Lord's forgiveness
as you're turning out the light.
You can say the words, "I love you,"
but they don't mean a thing
just because you have a preacher's blessing
or wear a diamond ring.
Seems we have forgotten
the reason for it all.
Sacrificed, now He has risen.
Can't you hear Him call?
Take us back, oh Heavenly Father,
back to our First Love.
A love that's real and lasts forever
must come from above.
Open up our eyes, Redeemer.
Teach us all Your ways.
Touch the hearts of these believers.
In Christ's name I pray.
You can try to fake a smile
when asked just how you feel,
and you might fool them for a while,
but your eyes, they do reveal.
You can be lost on uncharted waters
or find yourself estranged,
hoping it will all make sense,
yet still it goes unchanged.
You can dream about better days
that are still yet to come,
all the while His love remains.
Have our hearts become so numb?
Seems we have forgotten
the reason for it all.
Sacrificed, now He has risen.
Can't you hear Him call?
Take us back, oh Heavenly Father,
back to our First Love.
A love that's real and lasts forever
must come from above.
Open up our eyes, Redeemer.
Teach us all Your ways.
Touch the hearts of these believers.
In Christ's name I pray.
We can stand before our Maker,
rewinding our whole lives.
Have we become a promise breaker?
Did we fill our hearts with lies?
We can get lost in so many ways,
forgetting what it's all about.
So on our knees, let's all give praise.
You know seconds are ticking time out.
Seems I had forgotten
the reason for it all.
Sacrificed, and He has risen.
I can hear Him call.
Take me back, oh Heavenly Father,
back to my First Love.
A love that's real and lasts forever
has come from above.
Open up my eyes, Redeemer.
Teach me all Your ways.
Touch the heart of this believer.
In Christ's name I pray.
