Christ Died for You and Me

By Daniel Hoard

I used to ask for the Lord's forgiveness,
a plea for mercy I'd hope to find,
never expecting to be sinless,
just the thoughts of a double mind.
I was living to be noted
in this evil world's eye.
All the false gods that I hosted
could then consume me by and by.

Until one day He came to me
upon the altar's floor.
Spirit of God, overwhelming me,
Christ was standing at the door.
I would become a brand new creature,
and I would share His love out loud.
I was listening to the preacher
pull an "amen" from the crowd.
Chills running up my spine
and tears down my face,
believing this was the sign
of God's mercy and His grace.
A brother helped me to my feet,
but I left my sins right there.
Now I preach the gospel in the street.
I speak of Christ everywhere.

I used to ask for the Lord's favor,
a plea to offer a status change,
never expecting I would waver
from all the sins that I'd exchange.
Always wanting to be someone
I was never called to be.
When facing righteousness, I'd run.
A sinful coward—that was me.

Until one day He came to me
upon the altar's floor.
Spirit of God, overwhelming me,
Christ was standing at the door.
I would become a brand new creature,
and I would share His love out loud.
I was listening to the preacher
pull an "amen" from the crowd.
Chills running up my spine
and tears down my face,
believing this was the sign
of God's mercy and His grace.
A brother helped me to my feet,
but I left my sins right there.
Now I preach the gospel in the street.
I speak of Christ everywhere.

I used to ask the Lord for a lot of things
as I look back on it now,
but I fell in love with the King of kings,
and at His cross I will bow.
He offered up His life for mine
with love so willingly.
He's the reason for my every rhyme.
Yeah, Christ died for you and me.

Remembering the day He came to me
upon the altar's floor,
now I'm feeling love overwhelmingly.
Christ has opened my heart's door.
I have become a brand new creature,
and I share His love out loud.
I was listening to the preacher
pull an "amen" from the crowd.
Chills running up my spine
and tears down my face,
and knowing this was the sign
of God's mercy and His grace.
I'm standing on the truth in Christ.
Our sins He bore to spare.
His blood for us, it has sufficed,
and His love is yours to share.
